This Privacy Policy explains how Ricky James for Oceanside City Council 2026 ("the Campaign," "we," "us," or "our") collects, uses, and protects information from visitors to oceanside2026.com (the "Site") and from supporters who contact us, sign up for updates, contribute, volunteer, or opt in to text messages.
Information We Collect
We collect information you choose to give us, such as when you fill out a form on the Site, email or call us, make a contribution, sign up to volunteer, or opt in to receive text messages. This may include your name, mailing address, email address, phone number, and, for reportable contributions, your employer and occupation as required by California's Political Reform Act and FPPC campaign finance disclosure rules.
We do not use tracking cookies to build advertising profiles, and we do not knowingly collect information beyond what you directly provide to us or what is required for lawful campaign administration and reporting.
How We Use Information
- To respond to your questions, comments, or requests to volunteer or get involved.
- To send you campaign updates, event invitations, volunteer opportunities, and voting reminders — by email and, if you've opted in, by text message.
- To process and record contributions, and to prepare the campaign finance disclosures (such as FPPC Form 460 and Form 497) that California law requires us to file publicly.
- To improve the Site and our outreach based on how supporters use it.
Campaign Finance Disclosure Is Public Record
California law requires committees like ours to publicly report the name, address, employer, and occupation of contributors above certain thresholds. That information becomes part of the public record through the City of Oceanside's eFile campaign disclosure system and is outside our control once filed. This Privacy Policy governs how we handle information before and apart from that legally required public reporting — it does not and cannot make legally public filings private.
How We Share Information
We do not sell your personal information. We share information only:
- With service providers who help us operate the Campaign — for example, our text messaging platform (Twilio), email service, payment processors (such as Anedot), and website hosting (Netlify) — solely to provide those services on our behalf.
- As required by California campaign finance law (see above).
- If required by law, subpoena, or legal process.
Text messaging opt-in data is never shared for marketing. No mobile phone number or opt-in consent collected through our text messaging program will be sold, rented, or shared with any third party or affiliate for their own marketing or promotional purposes. This data is used solely to send you the Campaign communications you signed up for.
Data Security
We take reasonable steps to protect the information you share with us. No method of electronic storage or transmission is 100% secure, but we limit access to supporter information to those who need it to run the Campaign.
Your Choices
You can unsubscribe from campaign emails at any time using the link in any email. You can stop text messages at any time by replying STOP (see the SMS Program section below). You may also contact us directly using the information at the bottom of this page to ask what information we hold about you or to request it be removed, except where we are legally required to retain it (such as public campaign finance filings).
Children's Privacy
The Site and our text messaging program are intended for a general audience and are not directed to children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy as the Campaign's tools or practices change. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page reflects the most recent revision.
Text Messaging (SMS) Program

Program description: Supporters who opt in receive text messages from the Campaign about campaign news, volunteer opportunities, events, contribution reminders, and get-out-the-vote reminders ahead of the November 2026 election.
How You Opt In
You are only added to this program if you affirmatively opt in — for example, by submitting your phone number through a form on this Site, texting us directly, or signing up at a campaign event, and agreeing to receive text messages. Consent to receive text messages is never a condition of any purchase or contribution.
Message Frequency & Cost
Message frequency varies depending on campaign activity and is typically no more than a few messages per week, more often as Election Day approaches. Message and data rates may apply. Check with your mobile carrier for details on your plan.
How to Opt Out
Reply STOP to any message at any time to cancel. You'll receive one final confirmation text, and you will not receive further messages from this program unless you opt in again. For help, reply HELP or contact us at ricky@oceanside2026.com or 760-212-2185.
Carriers
Carriers are not liable for delayed or undelivered messages. T-Mobile, AT&T, Verizon, and other participating carriers are not liable for delayed or undelivered messages.

No Warranty
The Site and text messaging program are provided "as is" without warranties of any kind, express or implied. We do not guarantee the Site or messaging program will be uninterrupted, timely, secure, or error-free.
Limitation of Liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, the Campaign, its volunteers, and staff are not liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the Site or participation in the text messaging program.
Intellectual Property
Content on this Site — including text, photos, and graphics — belongs to Ricky James for Oceanside City Council 2026 unless otherwise noted, and may not be used to imply an endorsement without permission.
Governing Law
These Terms & Conditions are governed by the laws of the State of California, without regard to its conflict-of-law principles.
Changes to These Terms
We may update these Terms & Conditions from time to time. Continued use of the Site or continued participation in the text messaging program after changes are posted means you accept the updated terms.
